What is period underwear?
Period underwear looks like regular underwear, but the gusset (the crotch area) has a built-in absorbent zone made of several layers of technical fabric. You wear it on its own, with no pad or tampon, then wash it and reuse it for years.
It's an external product: nothing is inserted into the body. That's one of the big differences from tampons and menstrual cups, and we'll see below why it matters.

The secret of period underwear is a stack of layers, each with a specific job:
- The layer against your skin: a soft fabric that quickly draws the flow inward and wicks away moisture, so you feel dry.
- The absorbent layer: the core of the underwear. It captures and holds your menstrual flow, a bit like a sponge, without releasing it when you sit down or move.
- The waterproof layer: a leak-proof barrier that stops liquid from reaching your clothes while staying flexible.
- The outer fabric: the underwear itself, which provides comfort, support and a great fit.
This combination keeps your skin dry, contains your flow and limits odours: blood mainly develops a smell when exposed to air, and once it's captured in the absorbent layers, it's far less exposed.
How long can you wear period underwear?

Two tips from experience:
- The first days are the heaviest. Most of your flow usually happens on days 1 to 3 of your period. On those days, plan to change more often, for example in the morning and at the end of the day.

Is it safe?
Yes, and it's actually one of its biggest advantages. Toxic shock syndrome (TSS), a rare but serious infection, is associated with internal products such as tampons and menstrual cups. France's national health safety agency (ANSES) states that external products, like pads and period underwear, are not linked to this risk.

How to choose your period underwear
1. Based on your flow
This is the number one factor. Underwear designed for a light flow won't be enough on heavy days. Both of our styles are made for heavy flow, which gives you a safety margin even on lighter days.
2. Based on the time of day
- During the day and under fitted clothes: a thin cut with no visible seams, like our invisible period underwear.

4. How many pairs do you need?
To get through a whole cycle without doing laundry every day, most people need 4 to 6 pairs. If you'd like to try it first, start with one or two pairs for nights, then build your collection.
